‘Pretty Little Liars’ season 4, episode 8 review: Who confessed to killing Wilden?

Pretty Little LiarsThis week, one of the Pretty Little Liars took on a pretty impressive quest: Trying to become the biggest liar of all. When you consider everything that these ladies have gone through, it’s pretty difficult to fathom that there could be an even bigger lie left to tell.

Yet, almost a good half of this episode was seemingly spent with Mona coaching Hanna through trying to get herself in a position to take the fall for the death of Detective Wilden. She couldn’t handle her mom going away for the rest of her life, and even though she knew that she was innocent, she was not so willing to take the self-defense route, but Hanna was. In her head, it was an easy decision at the time … though a reckless one. This move may have caused an early divide between her and Caleb, as well, as he was understandably upset over her trying to hide it.

Then, we had the shocker of the entire episode as Mona of all people confessed to killing Wilden. Did she really do it? We don’t think so. It seems to be far too obvious, and her falling on her sword for Hanna is an appropriate move considering that she at one point tried to kill her … but we’re not sure these new, smarter police are going to buy it.

Aria is … Still dealing with her brother. This story is for the time being a little strange, just because we don’t quite get the point of it yet. Why is it a big deal at all that he is staying out all night, and doing what so many other students do?

Emily’s story – We want to focus a little bit on this particular moment between her and her mom, since it may have been one of the most human things that has unfolded on this show as the days of torment on Emily’s mom finally started to show on her face. She was realizing that her daughter was really ready to move forward, and seeing her potential victory in getting a summer opportunity, while she was stuck at home and jobless, was enough for her to break down. What an interesting but insightful change of pace.
