NBC’s ‘Community’ season 5: Dan Harmon on life without Donald Glover, Chevy Chase
While not having Chevy Chase specifically on the “Community” set may be a good thing when it comes to the sanity of Dan Harmon, there is also little denying that the absence of both him as well as Donald Glover does still create a series of interesting challenges for the show itself. You have to basically replace two series regulars while also turning over a good percentage of the staff, and that’s a lot of change for any show to go through.
Then again, there is probably not a show that is better prepared to handle any of this right now than “Community.” Change seems to be the name of the game here, with the entire team almost feeling a constant sense of stress about something that NBC or Sony is putting on them. Thanks to all of this, there may not be as much concern over the challenge ahead as there would be for some shows.
With that being said, there is no concrete plan in place just yet as per “replacements” in the study group, or new characters coming on. Harmon said the following to IGN, and it serves more or less as a basic outline for what he and his staff are looking to do:
“What we’re planning on doing is a matter of creative strategy right now in the writers room as we continue to break our first stories because we’re also talking to the various casting people right now and seeing ‘Is this person available?’ Because if that person is available than this character is going to be more integral and so on. I can’t divulge anything, because we’re still talking to so many people about so many different angles.”
There should be some more news on new additions within the coming weeks, especially as we start to get a little bit deeper into the writing process and production starts up.
So far now, start your speculating! Oh, and you can also see some video highlights from Comic-Con at the link here.
