‘Doctor Who’ 50th anniversary special: Matt Smith on filming with David Tennant, John Hurt
When you ask a “Doctor Who” fan these days what exactly it is that they want to talk about the most, you run the possibility of getting a variety of different answers in response. With some of them, it may be the 50th anniversary special coming up on November 23 (the same one that still has no trailer online), whereas others may be more curious as about the Christmas special, and who is going to replace Matt Smith as the 12th Doctor.
But for right now, it’s hard to really talk about the latter, given that it has yet to even film. However, Smith was very kind when he shared a few details with Vulture about the 50th special, which included getting the opportunity to shoot alongside both John Hurt and David Tennant in a location that almost any Whovian knows like the back of their hand:
“Our first scene was on the Tardis! It was me, David, and John actually, and we were flying the Tardis. I remember saying to Dave, ‘Dave, I don’t want to hog all the flying duties.’ Literally, you have those conversations. Seriously, I went, “Do you want to fly it for a bit?” We all flew it.”
In the same interview, Smith joked that it was him that turned many fans off on all men, which has sparked all the talk about getting a female Doctor for the first time ever. He also stressed yet again how much he (clearly) loves the gig, and while there is a part of him that does not want to leave, he has always felt as though this is the right time to do so, around a year or so after saying goodbye to his former companion Karen Gillan.
One thing we can definitely tell you: Daleks will be in the 50th anniversary special, and given Steven Moffat’s love for them, we are pretty sure that they will also be awesome.
