‘The Carrie Diaries’ season 2 spoilers: First look at Lindsey Gort’s Samantha Jones
Casting Samantha Jones was a grade-A bold move by the producers of “The Carrie Diaries,” mostly because you are probably taking the second-most iconic character from the “Sex and the City” universe, and then telling a new actress that they have to try and win over people who do very much worship the ground that Kim Cattrall walks on. No easy task, especially when you are giving this said role to someone like Lindsey Gort, who is not even a particularly well-known an actress.
If nothing else, producers do seem to have found someone in Gort who partially resembles Cattrall, and also captures some of Samantha’s same wild and fierce antics. While we still don’t know how in the world you can have the Samantha character without the primary thing that she is known for (which would never fly on The CW), this is a pretty good start either way. Now if only this show had been made canon with the HBO original series, especially since it has made an effort to link this story to the other at times, we’d be in heaven.
In a statement talking about this casting, “Carrie Diaries” executive producer Amy B. Harris said the following:
“In another nerve-wracking search to create the amazing characters we all came to know and love on Sex and the City, we went out in search this year for a young Samantha Jones. Lindsey Gort walked into the room and owned the part. Funny and sexy with a whiff of vulnerability and an amazing dash of outrageousness, Lindsey is our exciting choice to play the young Samantha Jones.”
Putting our frequent and well-documented concerns aside, “The Carrie Diaries” is actually one of The CW’s better dramas, and we’ll at least give the character a chance when the show premieres on October 25. You can read more about that here.
