Is Saturday Night Live new tonight on NBC? We certainly understand why everyone out there would want more of the show and soon. How can you not? It remains as timely as it has always been, especially with the quick nature in which it is put together.

Unfortunately, there has also been one glaring flaw with how the sketch show is structured: It is always off the air during the summer months. Unfortunately, what we are experiencing at this point is no different. There will not be a new installment tonight and beyond just that, we are not sure that we are going to see anything more until we get around to at least late September, if not October.

So what is Saturday Night Live missing out on right now when it comes to content? Well, for starters, it is not getting the chance to skewer the latest political headlines, of which there are many. Beyond that the World Cup is ongoing, and there would have been a great opportunity to utilize someone from the New York Knicks for either a cameo or a hosting gig. Wouldn’t that have been perfect for New York City? (Here is an absolutely insane fact: The last time the Knicks won the title, SNL had yet to even start airing episodes. That puts this in a certain historical perspective.)

Do not be surprised if there is a real lack of news when it comes to the show over the course of the next month or so. If we are lucky, we will probably get a clearer picture of what the next season looks like moving into August. There could be some cast members who exit, just like there could be a few others who come on board. The ebb and flow of the show is really just a natural part of how it functions at this point.
