Criminal Minds: Evolution season 19 episode 5: The Fan’s next move

As we look towards Criminal Minds: Evolution season 19 episode 5 on Paramount+ next week, one thing feels clear: The main story of the season is heating up!

At this point, it is becoming obvious to the BAU that the copycat killer a.k.a. the Fan is doing whatever they can to already evade the BAU, and a big part of the M.O. here is doing whatever they can to ensure that they do not get figured out. This includes capturing those who have spoken to them in an effort to learn even a small spattering of details. Clearly, they are of the belief that even if they can find out just a couple of things, it is far better than learning nothing at all.

What we tend to imagine is that moving forward this season, it is going to become a cat-and-mouse game with the BAU and the Fan, with then Elias Voit sitting at the center of everything. This is a real test here of what exactly Zach Gilford’s character wants when the dust settles here. Is this someone who is legitimately out to actually help the FBI and turn over a new leaf? Or, will he ultimately use this as a measure to escape? All of this is stuff we may have to wait and see on, but we do think the writers are building towards something specific. It just remains to be seen precisely what that something still is.

By the end of episode 5, we are going to be at the halfway point of season 19! By virtue of that, we really have to imagine that things are going to heat up more and more the rest of the way.
