Widow’s Bay season 1 episode 7: What did Evan learn?

We had a feeling that Widow’s Bay season 1 was going to present something huge this week, and for good reason. After all, there were two enormous episodes airing back to back on Apple TV and as it turns out, it as important that they released in this way.

When it comes to Tom’s story, for example, he had a chance to explore the early origins of the town and perhaps learn that it was a deal with the devil that started the cycle of pain and darkness. There will be a lot to say when it comes to the supernatural elements present here but at the same time, there is really one thing that is worth looking at in particular here, one that is a bit more clear and personal. Within that, this is where we turn some of our gaze over to Tom’s son Evan and what he found out about his mother.

At the end of episode 5, we had a chance to learn that Tom’s wife died in childbirth … or did she? As it turns out, he discovered photos that showed that he actually spent time with his mother after the fact, which raises some big questions. Why did Tom lie, and is she actually still alive?

It is certainly possible that some of this information is tied into other major story elements that we saw within this episode. Through the story of Richard it was made all the more clear that Tom will lie here and there if he considers it to be useful to the greater good. He could have easily fabricated something about his wife to Evan, thinking it could be less painful than whatever the truth is. Just consider that as we dive further into the rest of the season…
