Dutton Ranch season 1 episode 2: The Beulah Jackson crisis

The first two episodes of Dutton Ranch are now available on Paramount+ and within that, we have gotten a great opportunity to dive into Rip and Beth’s new world.
Where has that led us? Well, after a devastating fire (is more coming out about that?), the two traveled down to Texas with their adopted son Carter, where they did everything they could to start over after purchasing the Edwards Ranch. They are starting to put down roots but in the process, have made enemies already. This brings us to Annette Bening’s character of Beulah Jackson, who may end up being the central adversary for much of the story.

We learned quite a bit about her within the first two episodes, beginning with the fact that her ranch has been around for generations. Also, her family is far from functional. In the premiere, her son Rob-Will is a murderer, and her granddaughter Oreana does not seem to want much to do with the ranch at all. It feels like we’re going to see them serve as a de-facto weakness for her, a creator of many messes that one way or another, she is going to have to find a way to clean up.
Here is where things get juice: Rob-Will killed Wes in the first episode, only to then store his body on the now Dutton Ranch’s property. Rip discovered him and now, has him stored in what is effective the new iteration of the train station. This is something that could end up defining much of the season — Rip may not quite know what he has as of yet, but doesn’t it feel like he could figure that out in due time? The show would not be as exciting if this information is just kept from him…
