The Boys season 5: EP on Samuel L. Jackson – Xander cameo

There were a few different surprises across The Boys season 5 episode 7 on Prime Video this week, but one of the biggest ones came from Samuel L. Jackson. The iconic actor lent his voice in the episode as Xander the shark, who told off The Deep after he endorsed the dangerous pipeline that led to a massacre of ocean life. In no uncertain terms, he also told Chace Crawford’s character that if he ever comes in the water again, he’ll be killed on the spot.
So how did this guest role come about? As it turns out it was a simple request and beyond just that, it turns out that the actor was a fan of the show.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, creator Eric Kripke reacted to making the cameo happen:
“There was just a morning. He was free in New York City, and we brought him into a booth. I was in L.A. but video conferencing and was able to watch him do it … That’s a bucket-list thing, man, watching Sam Jackson read your dialogue. And I think it makes the scene just so funny because The Deep is getting told off and Sam Jackson’s very, very good at that.”
Is there a chance that we’re going to be seeing another cameo in the series finale? Sure, but we honestly hope that the focus remains on the core cast. If there is anyone who gets to return, we would love for it to be someone like Queen Maeve, who has not been around for quite some time. Heck, we’ll even take Ryan, who has basically disappeared ever since his near-death experience earlier this season.
