Meredith Vieira following Katie Couric’s path, developing daytime talk show

Today ShowJust in case having a daytime talk show starring Katie Couric was not enough for you, we now have confirmation that another former “Today Show” co-anchor is doing the same exact thing. It was announced on Tuesday that Meredith Vieira is also in the process of developing her own daytime talk show, which will launch in the fall of 2014.

As of right now, the show carries the title of “The Meredith Vieira Show,” and it will feature everything from inspirational moments to funny segments and newsworthy topics. Check out part of the official statement below:

“Each day, the show will offer an exceptional mix of daytime fun along with feel-good human interest stories from everyday people to celebrity guests who have an important story to tell, lifestyle segments and key topics that highlight Vieira’s warm, relatable and distinctive personality.”

So is Meredith’s talk show going to work? As a former contestant on her “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” show, we are a little bit biased to root for her given that she does come across as super nice both on and off-camera. The biggest challenge that we see it facing is just that there are way too many daytime talk shows on TV as it is, almost to the point where the medium could used just another “Oprah” that dominates everything. She is going to need to establish some sort of voice or insight that isn’t out there already, and also not run directly against Couric’s “Katie” so that the two do not hurt each other on the air.

Ultimately, we just have to be happy that some people from “The Today Show” are getting good careers for themselves. After all, the state of the current show is not nearly so fantastic.
