Why did Sonja Sohn say goodbye to Will Trent and the role of Amanda? One week after the character was killed off in shocking fashion, it is certainly fair to be wondering that.

Also, it is important to remember that in a lot of cases, you don’t quite “leave” a show as much as you are removed from the equation. That appears to be what happened here. The choice to remove the actress from the show was strictly a creative one, as the writers chose to deliver an enormous shocker in the midst of the big Adelaide story. This is something that will dramatically alter not just the life of Will, but just about everyone else on the team at the same time.

In a recent post on Instagram, Sohn herself alluded to the fact that it was not her choice to walk away from this world:

“Once you get the pink slip, it’s just a job. I got a job like you got a job. It’s just a job. Actors are really low people on the totem pole when it comes down to the big structure. When you get a pink slip, you don’t ask about it. You just say goodbye.”

Ultimately, we are going to miss having Amanda as a part of this world, and it is at least nice to see so many people cared about her deeply in this world. One of the things about a show like this is that you are inevitably going to get invested in almost everyone — a lot of that is tied to the sort of stories we are watching. Another part, meanwhile, is fact that we get eighteen seasons every single season.
