IT: Welcome to Derry season 2 renewal: An April 2026 update

We have finally made it to the month of April and yet, we are still in the midst of a pretty strange time when it comes to IT: Welcome to Derry season 2. How is there no real news about it yet?

Well, the more that we’ve heard over the past couple of months, the more that it does seem like another chapter is a foregone conclusion. The ratings for season 1 were great and beyond that, the episodes were well-received by fans and critics alike. The only explanation that we have right now is that everyone is waiting to get the story perfect first. That is all well and good, but just how long can that really hold?

Well, here’s the thing: We do think it benefits everyone if a season 2 renewal is confirmed this month, mostly for the sake of viewer confidence. How long do you need to drag out the process? Also, the faster that you get renewal dates set, the more we can start to speculate about possible premiere dates. While we do not necessarily think this is a show that has to air at some point around Halloween, it certainly benefits it on a number of different levels. Why wouldn’t you want something like this to happen here?

To us, we tend to think that if we are to get Welcome to Derry season 2 by the end of next year, filming will need to start at some point in late 2026. After all, this is one of those shows that does require a good bit of visual effects after filming is done, so you cannot just turn things around here at the last minute. We wouldn’t rule out a 2028 return … but we sure hope it doesn’t take that long.
