In just a couple of days you are going to have a chance to see Chicago Med season 11 episode 16 arrive over on NBC — so what can we say about it now?

Well, first and foremost, let’s just go ahead and note that “The Book of Charles” is going to deviate from the norm. Much like the Archer-specific story last season, Oliver Platt is going to be in every scene of this upcoming hour. It is the story of how he tries to help his daughter deal with a past suicide attempt, and also how it ties into their family history. It is going to be emotional, but we also view it in some way as a story of group healing, which could end up being necessarily for all parties involved.

Speaking on all of this further to TV Insider, here is some of what showrunner Allen MacDonald had to say:

“Oliver absolutely killed it in where he uses the story of his father’s suicide to impart to Anna that this is a family legacy and it’s nothing to be ashamed of, but it’s probably not something that she could have avoided. And it’s the story about him finding his father dead in a car from asphyxiation from car fumes in a garage that gets her to finally open up and say, ‘Yes, I tried to kill myself and opens the door for healing and moving forward.'”

None of these are easy subjects but at the same time, Chicago Med has long taken on issues of mental health. We recognize through Charles’ point of view it will be treated with sensitivity, and of course we are curious already as to how much it could shape the long-term future for both this character as well as many others.
