The Pitt season 2 finale: Are we gearing up for a cliffhanger?

We do recognize that we still have a couple of episodes away from The Pitt season 2 finale arriving on HBO Max, but is it okay to be afraid already? We tend to think so, and for so many reasons.

After all, one of the things that the show clearly seems to be prioritizing this season is separating itself from what we had the first go-around. Season 1 ended in a way that was almost peaceful, with Robby being able to walk away from the hospital after a meaningful conversation with Abbot. He went through the worst stuff imaginable and yet, found a way to emerge. The problem was him opting against treatment and help in all the months after the fact, leading to where we are right now.

We recognizing that for a huge chunk of the season, there have been in particular theories that Robby could end up in a motorcycle accident, something that could lead to his life being on the line in the finale or as a cliffhanger. He didn’t have that helmet on in the premiere! That clearly suggested an air of recklessness, almost as though he doesn’t care what happens to him. He’s been off ever since, and has noted on many occasions that he wants to start his journey after his shift — which feels dangerous in its own way.

If something is going to happen to Noah Wyle’s character now, it easily could stem from where we are now. His shift is over and with that, he could leave the hospital at any moment. If he does not listen to anyone around him, that could be a recipe for disaster — and also something that could mean everything changes for him entering a season 3. (Yes, there are certainly other possible cliffhangers, but this one stands out the most.)
