The Testaments season 2: EP discusses long-term plan

Next month The Testaments is going to premiere on Hulu, so what better time is there to discuss a long-term plan? The sequel series to The Handmaid’s Tale could very-much have a lot of story to adapt, but how much will it try to pace some things out?

Given that we live in a world of shorter series, we absolutely recognize that there may be a universe where a show like this goes the Paradise route and is done within three seasons. However, we also love that the original lasted for six and within that, we do love being able to sit within a world with characters for a while. We certainly do not want Agnes / Hannah to suffer for some long period of time, but long-form storytelling is some of the best that you are ever going to get.

For now, let’s just sit back and say that if executive producer Bruce Miller has his way, the series will be around for a while. Speaking to Deadline, he admitted that while he would love the show to be on a really long time, he also recognizes the sort of economic and creative climate we are in:

“I’m trying to be realistic and my sense in this environment is say 30, 40, 50 episodes.”

Given both the franchise IP and the presence of a rising star in Chase Infiniti (One Battle After Another), our feeling is that a season 2 at Hulu is pretty much a lock. Beyond that will be determined most likely be viewership. If enough people come and give The Testaments a try, we can easily see the streamer going ahead and pushing towards a season 3 and season 4.
