‘Downton Abbey’ season 4: Brendan Coyle and the art of guessing games
As fans of any TV series, there is a certain amount of entertainment that can be brought from just sitting around and pondering over what happens next. It doesn’t matter so much if you are talking about a comedy like “The Big Bang Theory” or a drama like “Downton Abbey”; so long as you enjoy the subject matter, it can be an entertaining way to pass the time.
One person who clearly does enjoy such talk, despite working on the very show he talks about? It’s none other than Brendan Coyle! Speaking as a part of a new interview with the Radio Times, the “Downton Abbey” star admits that he still gets enjoyment out of speculating about the series’ course of events along with many of his other co-stars:
“Yeah, we play that game. Usually it becomes quite filthy and scabrous! When we are the servants just all sitting around we’re quite boisterous downstairs, so the plotlines we come up with… they are not going to happen.”
Most of the folks that Coyle has an opportunity to speculate with are the likes of Joanna Froggatt and many of the actors who play some of the downstairs crew, if for no other reason than that they are the ones he spends most of this time filming with. “Downton Abbey” films the scenes with the servants on a set rather than Highclere Castle, so the two crews are separated by even more literal space than the metaphorical space between the classes on the show itself. (And yes, we are still tragically waiting for a premiere date for the show on ITV.)

I love Downton Abbey. Julian Fellowes is a genius and inspiration. I also absolutely love Brendan Coyle’s acting. I have since I was a kid. His tastes in theatre and stories is also pretty interesting. So, I think if Brendan Coyle says this season is the best one yet, it will be.
