Landman season 3 spoilers: A different Ainsley arc?

As we look in the direction of Landman season 3 over at Paramount+, there are some elements of the story that feel clear. Based on the way that season 2 wrapped up, you can very much assume that Tommy’s new oil company will be front and center. Much of his family will be involved in it to some degree … but then there is Ainsley.

The honest truth at this point is that Michelle Randolph’s character is in a really strange place moving into the next chapter. After all, she is now at college, so is she really going to have that much to do with the rest of the cast? How do you incorporate her all the time? These are the things we are left to wonder, though we are sure that Taylor Sheridan does have some sort of plan already.

Speaking now to The Hollywood Reporter, Randolph did indicate some of what she expects on Landman moving forward — though we imagine that everything can flow and change based on what co-creator Taylor Sheridan decides at any given moment:

Well, we know who Ainsley is when she is around her family and comfortable. So I’m looking forward to seeing and discovering who she is when she goes to college and she’s around her peers and out of her comfort zone. I think we saw speckles of that in season two toward the end. What’s cool about growing with a character is, especially on a TV show, you get to meet them at different points in their life. I’m learning who Ainsley is as she’s learning who she is. That makes me excited to get back.

Honestly, the part of Ainsley’s story that does intrigue is her broadening her horizons. This does happen for a lot of people who go to college after living pretty sheltered lives — it can challenge their worldview and in that sense, she could become more of a foil in the future.
