2013 Teen Choice Awards analysis: Joseph Morgan, Lana Parrilla fight it out

Teen ChoiceDo you remember our Teen Choice Awards preview series from last month? Thanks to the second wave of nominations being announced, we’re back with some more quick takes on who should walk away with surfboards when Fox airs this ceremony on Sunday, August 11 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time.

We kick things off today with a look at the villains, mostly since this is something that every good TV show needs. Just as you have someone that you very much want to root for, it’s also important that you have someone to root against. Do you have a favorite? We want to hear from you in the poll below! Also, click here if you want to read the rest of our articles in this series, and see who we think has the best shot at getting some awards-show love.

The nominees – Carly Chaikin, “Surburgatory” (ABC), Joseph Morgan, “The Vampire Diaries” (The CW), Lana Parrilla, “Once Upon a Time” (ABC), Janel Parrish, “Pretty Little Liars” (ABC Family”), Becca Tobin, “Glee” (Fox)

The favorite – For the time being, it has to be Morgan based solely on the past history of “The Vampire Diaries” winning big at this show. With that being said, this could be a closer race than people think. We can start by ruling out Chaikin and Tobin, mostly because neither one of them appear to have the following online that is really necessary in order to pull something like this off. This leaves us with three nominees, and we would not write off Lana based on the extreme support she has from “Once Upon a Time” fans.

Who should win – If we were going based on their overall body of work, we’d probably say Morgan; however, Parrilla had the stronger year this time around, with one of the reasons for that being that this is supposed to be a race to see who is the best villain, and Regina had quite a few interesting storylines. Next year, Morgan may be transferred over to the main actor category for his work in “The Originals.”
