Dancing with the Stars spin-off in works; Robert Irwin may host

As we get prepared to see the premiere of Dancing with the Stars season 35 on ABC, why not celebrate more from the ballroom universe?
According to a new report from Deadline, the network is eyeing a possible spin-off series that could be all about the search for the next pro. Robert Irwin, who just won the most recent season of the show, is being considered to be the host. Meanwhile, longtime pro Mark Ballas (who is currently on The Traitors) could be a judge on the series alongside his mom Shirley, an icon within the ballroom-dance world. Meanwhile, the third judge could be rotating among a number of other notable personalities.

If this show premieres at some point in the summer, our feeling is that the winner could be a part of the competition moving into the fall. We do think that the timing here feels right given the recent surge in DWTS’ popularity over the past few years. We do think it is smart to not make the show a semi-annual event again, but something like this? It feels like there would be less expectation on it ratings-wise and it could have a different sort of style and format.
For the time being, let’s just go ahead and be hopeful for whatever the future holds here! We want to see not just some great dancers, but also excellent entertainers at the same time. The thing with this show is that you have to appeal to not just dance fans, but also people who want to have a good time watching fun and creative routines.
