As many of you out there may be aware, Grey’s Anatomy season 22 episode 9 this Thursday is going to be more important than most. This is, after all, a huge spotlight on Richard Webber as he undergoes surgery for prostate cancer. This is such a serious issue that we are left to worry about his future — not just at the hospital, but in terms of his life!

Behind the camera, this is also a very important hour of TV for Kim Raver, who directs it in addition to starring as Teddy. This is a story that is very character-focused, and she seemed to be eager to jump at this challenge.

To get a little more discussion about this now, here is some of what the actress had to say to TV Insider:

“I have to say, Mr. Jim Pickens in this episode, I mean, as always, he’s extraordinary, but he is absolutely incredible in this episode. It was such a pleasure to work so deeply with him … I definitely felt very high stakes because I wanted to be able to be very mindful to tell the story in the most accurate and most sensitive way. Jim is the OG of the OGs, with Chandra Wilson, so they know the show so well. But yes, there’s definitely a personal aspect of it, and he’s just a real collaborator, but I definitely felt very protective of the storyline, especially.”

We know that aside from the Richard story, there is also another interesting and personal angle here. After all, one of the other narratives is going to be Nick’s sister turning up. What does that mean for him and Meredith? That remains to be seen, but we are happy to have Ellen Pompeo and Scott Speedman around.
