Outer Banks season 5: Chase Stokes on saying goodbye
As many of you may be aware at this point, Outer Banks season 5 is going to be the final one to arrive on Netflix — and of course, isn’t that bittersweet?
On paper, you can argue that the journey of the Pogues is one that could go on for quite some time, but there is an immediate concern that goes along with that — if you run the show for too long, does it get stale? Do viewers care about you in the same way? It is all something to wonder about.

In the end, the cast is happy to say goodbye with season 5, if for no other reason than that it allows them a much better chance to say goodbye on their own terms. In speaking about this further to People Magazine, here is more of what Chase Stokes had to say on the subject:
“We want the story to end on the right note, versus [turning] four seasons into season nine and we’re going after aliens or something. We want to cut the cord before we lose the plot.”
We do recognize that entering season 5, John B. and the rest of the main characters will have a lot on their plate. There is mourning what transpired with JJ, but then also John and Sarah making some huge decisions when it comes to their own future. The sense of adventure from the first four seasons will be there, and it is our hope that we do build eventually towards some sort of satisfying conclusion. We do know that there is potential at least for spin-offs within this world, so the franchise itself does not have to end just because the original Netflix show is saying farewell.
