Even though the second season of Avatar: The Last Airbender does not even have a premiere date yet at Netflix, there is still more to report about season 3!

After all, a new report today from Tudum confirms that filming on the third and final season is now done. Seasons 2 and 3 were shot mostly back-to-back, a move designed to make things easier on production while also ensuring that most of the younger cast did not age out of their roles. Netflix gave the adaptation a tremendous vote of confidence in allowing this to happen, and we tend to think that everyone involved is not going to prioritize post-production and making everything perfect on the other side.

In a statement per the aforementioned site, here is some of what executive producer / writer Christine Boylan had to say:

“When we started working on Season 2 we gathered three forces: integrity, hope, and joy … And here we are almost three years later wrapping the end of production with an immensely talented and devoted team that met those ideals and exceeded them. I am eternally grateful to be part of this important, hilarious, action-packed team who is bringing this epic live action story to the world.”

So when will season 2 premiere?

We would love to be able to come in here and specify some extremely particular period of time but in reality, doing that is almost impossible. We do imagine that Avatar: The Last Airbender will launch season 2 at some point next year and after that, the focus will shift more to trying to find the best way to put out season 3. We do tend to think one big advantage of filming the two seasons back to back is that it could reduce the wait for the final season, but that is really up to Netflix to decide. This is not something that the cast and crew have any say in, even if it would be nice if that were the case sometimes.

What do you most want to see moving into Avatar: The Last Airbender season 2, let alone season 3?
