Alien: Earth spoilers: Show EP on character focus

The more that we hear about Alien: Earth premiering on FX a little bit later this month, the more excited we become.

After all, let’s just say that this series is going to be both familiar and different. Our general feeling at this point is that the show is going to incorporate some of the scares that were there in the movies; yet, at the same time, great characters and then also a story a bit more slow-moving. We feel reasonably confident at this point that we are going to be seeing Noah Hawley deliver the goods. Why wouldn’t we, all things considered?

Speaking (per TVLine) at a recent screener, Hawley had the following to say about the differences between the movie and the show:

“An Alien movie is a two-hour survival story, right? It’s a monster movie … And a television show can’t be that. A television show has to be long-form with characters that you can invest in, with relationships and dynamics. I like to say that even if you had 60% of the best action and horror, you’d still have 40% of: ‘What are we talking about? What is the show about?’”

Of course, all of this makes us think that we are going to see the show paced differently and that’s okay. After all, remember for a moment that this could end up being a multi-season show and that is what some of the powers-that-be want. It is one of the reasons why Fargo season 6 could be on hold for a little while — there is only so much that Hawley can do within a certain period of time.
