‘The Walking Dead,’ baseball team up for hilarious first pitch (video)

The Walking DeadWhen you play as many games as professional baseball players do in a season, there are times when you really can benefit from a shake-up from time to time … even if this said shakeup involves members of the zombie horde crawling around on the diamond and making a general nuisance of things.

This precise thing happened recently at a San Diego Padres game last month, where there was an invasion of zombies at Petco Park. At first, things started innocently enough, as the first pitch was thrown, and it seemed just like anything you would expect at any other game. Then, things started to go a little bit differently when the catcher revealed at the end that they were actually a part of a zombie army, and them some other people with the same sort of undead features joined them in wandering around the baseball field. It is one of those completely random and awesome events that really is worth seeing, especially since members of the actual baseball teams did not see this coming.

Really, this entire pitch was a way to promote the upcoming “Walking Dead“-themed attraction that is coming to the ballpark next month, around the same time as San Diego Comic-Con, where the entire city is basically turned into paradise for comic and genre fans all around the world. Hundreds of thousands of people will descend upon the area from around the country, and it is something the city is incredibly grateful to have from the standpoint of pulling in revenue.
