NBC’s ‘Hannibal’ finale: #EmmyAlDente tends higher than NBA Finals, ‘North West’

HannibalWhile we’re going look at the season finale of “Hannibal” in a few short minutes, what we want to talk about now is once again, the sheer power of the “Fannibal” audience to trend something Emmy-related on Twitter in an effort to get the word out about how great this show really is. While some previous trends have been impressive, this one really manages to take the cake given everything else that is going on in the world right about now.

The specific trend here that we are talking about is #EmmyAlDente, and during its peak (at least as of this writing), it climbed up all the way to #2 on the Trending Topics list, above such topics as anything related to the NBA Finals (and this is Game 7, no less), technology news, and Kim Kardashian and Kanye West inexplicably naming their daughter “North.”

It is still hard to really measure the impact that these sort of trends will have on anyone, whether you are talking about Emmys or what a network chooses to do with their show. While there are some processes in the works to try and understand the link between Twitter and viewership more easily, this is still early technology, and quantitative data is going to take some time. But we still think that it is a brilliant idea by the show and its producers to continue to draw traffic to themselves (and have a metaphorical “For Your Consideration” ad) without having to pay a cent to publish something on a major website. Mads Mikkelsen, Hugh Dancy, and the series itself are all worth pushing, and thanks to Bryan Fuller’s vision, it also has a shot at garnering some attention in the creative arts categories.

Even in the worst-case scenario that these trends fail to promote the show at all in the eyes of Emmy viewers, at least they are another way to unify the Fannibal faithful.
