‘Hemlock Grove’ season 2 official; Netflix shows loyalty to series

Hemlock GroveYou have to hand it to Netflix right about now. Even if some of their shows are not exactly well-received, they are still willing to give them a try for at least another season in order to work things out. No, we’re not talking about either “House of Cards” or “Arrested Development,” given that almost all critics loved them. Instead, we’re pointing the needle firmly in the direction of “Hemlock Grove.”

In a statement on Wednesday, the web service confirmed that they were giving the show another season, and that the showrunner will be Charles H. “Chic” Eglee, of “The Walking Dead” and “Dexter” fame. Executive producer Eli Roth had the following to say about the good news coming in here:

“The worldwide fan response to Hemlock Grove was phenomenal … Netflix members loved the potent combination of sexy monsters, mystery and the dark family soap opera that ended with a huge twist, leaving audiences worldwide totally shocked. Season 1 was just a warm up for what we have in store for Season 2.  Get ready to be scared in ways you never expected.”

Do we think that he is going a little bit crazy with the praise here? We could never say the word “yes” loudly enough if we tried. With that being said, we do love the enthusiasm from which he speaks, and we will always prefer that to someone hopeless about the future of the show. “Hemlock Grove” had great moments, but it was so uneven in its first season; shows have turned it around and become great in second seasons, and maybe they can do the same thing here.

Want to read more about the future of “Arrested Development” in particular? If so, our suggestion is to head on over to the link here.
