‘Under the Dome’: CBS cuts out scene with President Obama recording

Under the DomeA week from tomorrow, CBS is set to premiere what has to be their most-ambitious new series of the entire summer: “Under the Dome.” This show marks for them the opportunity to compete in scripted programming, and to try something a little bit different after going in a familiar direction with reality programming that hasn’t quite worked the past few years.

However, there is already one confirmed change to an episode that was otherwise already completed which is an audio recording of President Obama around the time that Hurricane Sandy took place. In a statement, CBS confirmed that in order to separate reality from the fictional world of the show, the plan is to either omit or alter the need for a recording:

“The audio of the President in the final scene will change … The scene cleared broadcast standards, but both Amblin TV and CBS had concerns about using actual audio in this specific fictional context.”

As for whether or not this change is really going to have much of an impact on the show itself, we see it as pretty doubtful. “Under the Dome” feels like a series right now that is intended to rely a little bit more on shock value and characters than it does anything from pop culture or our country’s history, so what is going to matter more than anything else is if the show delivers from a storytelling perspective.

Luckily, we will be finding out the true measure of its success in a matter of a couple weeks’ time. Do you want to hear about some of the specific changes that are being made for this adaptation? If so, all you have to do is visit the story over at the link here.
