NBC’s ‘Smash’ alum Megan Hilty, Sean Hayes reunite for ‘Sean Saves the World’

Sean Saves the WorldIt looks like Megan Hilty does not have to sing the blues for very long about being unemployed at the Tony Awards when it comes to a TV gig as the former “Smash” star has a new role now, and it keeps her firmly on board with a man who was a part of the musical drama with her throughout season 2.

According to TVLine, Hilty has been cast to play the role of Hayes’ best friend Liz on the series, which is airing in the NBC Thursday-night spot (9:00 p.m. Eastern time) previously occupied by “The Office.” She will be a series regular, and we expect to see a completely different side of her that does not include nearly as much singing.

Following the end of “Smash,” Hilty was one of the actors that we truly felt the worst for. There were countless moments where she did show a great deal of talent on the show, but her character of Ivy Lynn was often crippled by confusing writing. Plus, we had a hard time ultimately figuring out whether or not her character was someone we were actually supposed to root for, and by the time it was starting to become clear, it was ultimately too late.

Hopefully, this series will stick around for a little while longer then “Smash” did, but it will all depend on viewership and its biggest threat may just be Robin Williams, as “The Crazy Ones” is going to air on CBS at the same exact time this fall.

What do you think about Hilty joining this gig, and do you think that a sitcom could serve her well? In case you missed the full “Sean Saves the World” trailer, our advice to you is to head on over to the link here.
