‘Royal Pains’ season 5 premiere review: Divya’s big reveal; HankMed’s challenge

“Royal Pains” came back on Wednesday night with the start of season 5, and what a start it was. The USA series really wasted no time at all when it comes to making this into a game-changer, and we’re talking almost across the board.

The first major shocker this episode? HankMed is in trouble. Though Hank seems to be recovering nicely, a wealthy woman in the Hamptons found a way in which to find his company in violation of some local rules by operating a full-service practice in his house, and thus, he needs to find a solution, and a new clinic, pretty darn fast if he wants to keep the business alive.

Where does he go? We have no idea, given that Evan and Paige are now living in Shadow Pond thanks to the generous nature of Dimitri … or at least what they feel is generous. Hank still does not trust the man that is in Boris’ place, and feels that he is even responsible for his death. Who’s right? Hank’s typically a pretty good judge of these things.

We enjoyed all of these stories, though we may have enjoyed even more the presence of Dr. Sacani sporting his extremely manly beard following his time in Iceland. Who is this internet girlfriend that he speaks of? We have no idea, but there is also another complication that could keep him from being with Divya: She’s pregnant, presumably with Rafa’s baby. This means to us that he will be back at some point, unless he is pretty much the most awful potential dad alive. This is a game-changer in that it forces the characters to think about something different beyond medicine, and for Divya, we can’t wait to see what her conservative parents think of this.
