‘Sons of Anarchy’ season 6: Kurt Sutter still open to prequel series

Sons of AnarchyFor quite a while now, “Sons of Anarchy” creator Kurt Sutter has expressed some interest in diving deeper into his show’s mythology with a prequel series, but will it actually happen? As of right now, the show seems to be in the “idea” stage much in the same way that “Breaking Bad” creator Vince Gilligan is with his spin-off “Better Call Saul.”

Sutter was one of many guests this weekend at the Produced By Conference, which is a great opportunity to get insight from some of the best minds in the business, and he was asked for a status report on the prequel idea per Deadline. His response? That it’s still too early to know just what it would be, let alone if it will happen and when it will air:

“Right not, it is just conversations … I want to let the property rest for a year or so after Sons is over before jumping in … I don’t know if it will be a series or a limited series of say 10 to 13 episodes. I don’t want to do it as a movie – tonally, I don’t see it as a movie.”

We definitely agree with the latter claim, and if we had to give a personal preference of our own, we would vote for limited series as the best possible option. Given that there is only so much mythology that can exist, you don’t want to try and create an open-ended storyline. 13 episode seems like the perfect length to tell this sort of story, and it would be something “Sons of Anarchy” fans would lap up following what could be a series finale in just over a year’s time. (The showrunner has previously said that he is planning for season 7 to be the show’s last.)
