Sorry, Russell Brand; FX cancels ‘BrandX’
For those of you who truly enjoyed “BrandX with Russell Brand,” there’s some sad news coming in today. FX has made the move to cancel the series, giving the flagship network a pretty empty slate when it comes to a late-night option. (If you remember, “Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell” is moving to the new sister station FXX.)
So are we particularly sad about this? Yes and no. “BrandX” was never as good of a show as it should have been given Brand’s talent, and it almost goes to prove that he is a much better guest on other people’s shows than he is as the host of his own program. The show was a little all over the place, and while funny, it just couldn’t find an audience much in the same way that his film career has struggled at times.
The good news for Brand is that FX and its family of networks want to continue having a relationship with him. John Landgraf, who is basically now the emperor over the entire empire, has picked up a comedy with Brand attached as an executive producer. Plus, there is also a scripted live-action comedy that is in development, but it is not clear if Brand is attached to star or produce in the project.
We anticipate there being more changes in the works soon for the network, with one of the biggest ones being the inevitable end of Charlie Sheen’s “Anger Management” as soon as this 90-episode renewal is at an end. This was a great idea in theory, but it just has not worked out when it comes to ratings, even if most of the parties involved have made money on the deal.
Are you bummed to hear this news? We want to hear all of your thoughts below!
