MTV’s ‘Awkward’ season 3, episode 8 review: Jenna and Colin grow closer

AwkwardWe’ll start off this “Awkward” episode review with a pretty surprising confession. Even though we know that most of the buzz this week is going to be all about what went on with Jenna and the bookstore reading, we really have to say that the story revolving all around Matty and Jake had us completely in stitches this week.

Basically, what we think that this entire story was a result of was two guys who spend so much time being co-dependent with their girlfriends, they suddenly did not have much of an idea how to function on their own. Therefore, they went back and forth in various games to embarrass and disgust the other party. Did it work? We like to think so. There were some truly gross eating challenges, and they apparently never got the memo that everyone else ended up going to Jenna’s “secret” reading.

While this event gave Ashley Rickards’ character a chance to really vent and express her feelings in order to take a step further in her creative writing class, Matty probably really wishes he was there to keep that conversation between Jenna and Colin from happening. These two are not a couple by any means, and nor was there physical cheating. However, it is becoming clear that there is an attraction, and there is a nasty storm a-brewing that could leave Matty completely heartbroken in the end. The unfortunate thing here is that we just don’t know if there is anything the guy can do. Jenna may just be wanting something different now than what he offers.

What did you think about this episode? While we overall enjoyed it, we do have to admit that there is a certain uneasy feeling in seeing Jenna grow closer to someone who is not her boyfriend.
