‘Real Housewives of Orange County’: Tamra Barney lands wedding spin-off show
There is a pretty interesting precedent being set right now when it comes to stars of Bravo’s “Real Housewives” franchise, and eventually landing your own spin-off series. Apparently, what you need to do if you want to get more airtime is get married!
First, Bethenny Frankel started this trend with “Bethenny Getting Married,” and then, this was followed by Kim Zolciak and “Don’t Be Tardy for the Wedding.” Both of these women eventually went on to have permanent spin-offs, with “Bethenny Ever After” seemingly no longer being a part of the Bravo rotation. NeNe Leakes recently scored her own wedding series in “I Dream of NeNe,” and now, Tamra Barney is getting the same exact thing.
In a post on Twitter, the “Real Housewives of Orange County” star made it official that there is a wedding spin-off coming up about her and her fiance Eddie, who proposed to her on the show last season. Tamra also requested any and all suggestions for names.
In getting this show, Barney becomes the first cast member from the Orange County version of the franchise to land her own spin-off, and if we are being reasonably honest, we are surprised. It is not that Tamra is listless or bad TV, but her flagship series is not the same sort of ratings beast that the other shows to launch wedding spin-offs have been over the years. Considering that not everyone who watches that show is a Tamra fan (just as not everyone who watches the “Real Housewives of Atlanta” loves Kim), the viewership will be just a percentage of that.
Who knows? Maybe we’ll be wrong, and this wedding will create so much wackiness that it smashes viewing records everywhere.
