After an incredible 16 seasons of consistency, “Dancing with the Stars” may now be getting close to having one of the largest overhauls it has ever done when it comes to its on-air personality. What’s the reason for it? As you would expect, money is going to play a very important role.
According to the New York Post, the show is going to be looking to make some pretty hefty cuts to the show’s budget now that the results show has been effectively canceled, meaning that the judges and professionals dancers jobs are in jeopardy. Len Goodman and Carrie Ann Inaba are singled out as people who may not return after being a part of the show since the beginning, while Mark Ballas (who is shopping a reality show), Derek Hough, and Cheryl Burke may not return as well. Derek originally was planning to skip this past season, but decided instead to go for it and had one of the best times of his career in route to winning with Kellie Pickler.
Are these moves the right moves? We’re not a fan at all. In fact we personally would have kept the results show for the fall and the judges, but simply improved the two things with this show that really need improvement: Tom Bergeron’s co-host who is as exciting as a piece of wood, and also the contestant pool. You need to find a way to bring in stars that will actually interest people, and make the show attractive to them, with such as opportunities for future work that comes with participation on the show. Bergeron is as good as they come, and the judges have great chemistry and always have. Really, they are the perfect example of what other reality competitions need: People who were not famous when they signed up, but knew their stuff and grew to become celebrities thanks to their knowledge of the craft and the chemistry they have with the other judges on the panel.
