‘Real Housewives of Orange County’ review: Heather Dubrow’s ‘Hot It Cleveland’ huff
On Monday night’s “Real Housewives of Orange County” episode, the real theme was, as just about everyone in the world would have expected, drama. What was a little bit more of a surprise was seeing most of it come in the form of conflict between the women and their significant others more so than the women and some of their co-stars.
We begin this week with a kerfuffle that was really born out of Heather Dubrow’s husband Terry making some questionable comments about his wife following the news of her “Hot in Cleveland” casting, and the d-word (in “divorce”) was eventually brought up to the surface. This is clearly something that a number of these women know quite a bit about already, mostly because it is spoken as frequently on this franchise as some other people talk about sleeping or eating. Just in the past year alone, we’ve had a pair of very high-profile splits involving Adrienne Maloof / Dr. Paul Nassif and Porsha / Kordell Stewart.
Meanwhile, Tamra Barney was thrilled last season to have her engagement happen with Eddie, but not nearly so much now that he is focusing on his riding and not putting enough attention into getting their big day together. There were still some squabbles with Vicki Gunvalson mixed in. These may be minimized at this point since it is the reality TV equivalent of the Pavlovian dog: We’ve seen it happen so many times that we’ve become used to the women fighting, and no longer make anything of it.
Finally, what in the world was with some of those random comments from Vicki about how old people are? The woman has become conditioned in her own way to lose all sense of tact when the TV cameras are on her. She knows that this equals airtime, but may not take into consideration how her words make other people feel.
At least this episode was pretty entertaining when the dust cleared, and we certainly have a new perspective of what happens when a Real Housewife / actress gets cast on a show.
