‘Mad Men’ season 6: Elisabeth Moss on changes, new look
While there are some interesting new storylines playing out right now on “Mad Men” season 6, we’re not sure that any of them are more of a departure than what we are seeing from Elisabeth Moss’ character of Peggy Olson. For the better part of five seasons, she was Don Draper’s protegee. Now, she is inching ever closer to becoming his competition, and one of the biggest threats that Don has is what he has going on at SCDP.
So what did Elisabeth Moss initially have to say about the major change for her character? Speaking to AMC’s official blog for the show, the Emmy nominee opened up about her first reaction to Peggy leaving the firm was strictly fear, mostly because she did not want to end up being written out of the series:
“My first thing that I said to Matt was, ‘That’s awesome. I love the idea. Am I still on the show?’ … And then I really thought it was really brilliant and it all clicked into place for me, like a puzzle… It’s planted from the very beginning when Peggy’s watching Megan dance ‘Zou Bisou Bisou’ and realizing there’s this woman fully embracing her life, and Peggy feels sort of stuck… There are so many hints, but I didn’t even catch it.”
Moss also opened up a little bit about the new look that we have seen from her character this season, which has enabled Peggy to show off a different sort of aesthetic than anything in the past:
“We kind of did it because my hair was short, but I would have really loved to do something shorter but it wasn’t quite that time yet… Peggy’s old-fashioned. We’re not going to see her with Mia Farrow hair from Rosemary’s Baby or Liza Minnelli circa that time. As much as I’d love that for her, I don’t think she’s there yet.”

I just LOVED, the first five seasons of this show. However, I am very disappointed with this season. There seems to be no continuity since so much of the cast has changed, and I think Peggy should be back with the original agency, as the new one she joined lacks interest.

peggy’s attempt at becoming don’s competition is not true to her charachter or to don’s. the reality is that the grass is not always greener on the other side. the cast should stick with doing the things that made them who they are. this is what made the show get this far. trying to change what works would ruin madmen. if it isn’t broken then don’t fix it. go with the original madmen concept and let it off the leash !
