Starz renews ‘Da Vinci’s Demons’ for season 2

Da Vinci's DemonsStarz sure seems to have some confidence in their new series “Da Vinci’s Demons.” How much so? Let’s just say that the network has decided to renew the series only an episode in.

The drama series set a Starz record last Friday for a series launch, as more than 2.1 million people had an opportunity to check out the show. The network had a challenge in following up the successful “Spartacus” series, and this is helping to hold down the fort until the launch of “Magic City” season 2 a little later in the year.

In a statement, here is what executive producer David S. Goyer had to say about getting to show more Da Vinci adventures in the future:

“I’m excited that we get to continue the adventures of the world’s most eccentric and glorious polymath … Long live Leonardo and thanks to Starz for helping to make it happen.”

Then again, should we really be that surprised by this news? Probably not. This is the same network that renewed “Boss” for a second season before a single episode aired, and they, like many other premium cable networks, like to show a great deal of confidence in their programming by giving them time to craft out new stories. This is a pattern used brilliantly by HBO, who recently made the decision to renew “Game of Thrones” for a season 4 one episode into this current handful of episodes.

Hopefully, the success of this show will lead to Starz continuing to be courageous in their development moving forward.  Are you glad to hear this news, even though Starz made such a quick decision with it?
