‘Chicago Fire’ spin-off casts Clint Eastwood’s son as potential star
On May 15, we are going to see more than just the season 1 finale for “Chicago Fire,” as NBC is also going to use the episode to test out a potential new police drama from Dick Wolf set in the same universe. As we’ve said previously, it is a bit unusual for a network to want any sort of spin-off series to a show that has only been around for a season, but with the ratings for most of the network’s drama sinking down the drain faster than we can really wave goodbye, they need to find a winner somewhere.
According to a report from TVLine, the show may have also just found one of its leads. Scott Eastwood, whose father is of course a famous man with the first name of Clint, has been booked to play the part of Officer Jim Barnes on the backdoor pilot. There’s not really anything else known about the part for the time being, but it will be something worth keeping an eye on in the weeks ahead.
So what are the odds of this backdoor pilot going through? Really, it is probably dependent on three variables:
1. The ratings of “Chicago Fire” itself for the rest of the season.
2. The quality of the concept that Wolf and his team come up with.
3. The state of NBC’s pilots that are out there and currently in production. With there potentially being spots open for the series on several nights during the week, including Thursday nights at 10:00 p.m. and possibly Wednesday if that comedy block is scrapped, the network could take on quite a few new projects.
