‘The Walking Dead’ season 3: Steven Yeun says Norman Reedus brings in the female viewers
There’s no question about it, Norman Reedus is easy on the eyes, but throw in the fact that he plays a bad boy with a heart of gold who drives a motorcycle and you have a sure fire way to get women to tune into “The Walking Dead” every week.
While speaking to Access Hollywood, Steven Yeun (who plays Glenn on the series) was asked why he thought “The Walking Dead” had such a strong female fan base, and although we think it’s because the series is engaging and exciting, Yeun feels that the female viewers are tuning in for a different reason all together. He said: “It might be [to see] Norman Reedus. It’s might be Norman Reedus, Andrew Lincoln – probably those two!”
Although Reedus is clearly an added bonus for female viewers that like that rugged good looking sort of man (we prefer the geek boys ourselves), Yeun is missing another critical aspect that likely draws the female audience to the show – Glenn’s romance with Maggie. In this crazy zombie world of “The Walking Dead” there’s very little hope and many people have turned violent or just crazy, but Glenn and Maggie have found real love, something that is even deeper then a normal relationship because of the intense situation they are in. This season has found Glenn and Maggie at odds after their run in with the Governor, but last week these two found their way back together, leading them to a steamy love scene. Yeun said: “They’re in love and it’s hard to keep love like that down and out.”

I started watching the Walking Dead because I was a fan of the comics. I love the series and the comics because it’s about humanity. How do we survive as humans in a hostile environment, stripped of all the structure and comforts we’ve grown used to? How do people react? The best and the worst is brought out of the characters through extreme circumstances. That’s what got me hooked on the show. Then, admittedly, I discovered Norman Reedus on the show and became a fan, because he plays a great character and plays it very well. But my love for The Walking Dead predated my love for Norman Reedus. You could say The Walking Dead drew me to Reedus, not the other way around!
