NBC’s ‘The Office’: Rainn Wilson books new pilot from ‘Bones’ creator
For much for 2013 thus far, there has been one question in regards to Rainn Wilson: where will he end up after “The Office” ends? At one point, it appeared as though he was going to continue the legacy of Dwight Shrute by moving over to the spin-off series “The Farm,” but NBC ultimately decided to not pick the show up. (The reconfigured pilot ended up airing this past Thursday.) From that point, the actor was offered a whole heap of other pilots, including one over at his longtime network with a six-episode commitment. He said no to all of these.
Now, however, it appears as though Wilson has finally secured himself a home. Sources are confirming that the actor has signed on to the CBS pilot “Backstorm” from “Bones” executive producer Hart Hanson, Wilson is set to star in the show, which is actually a drama, as a cranky detective who has a whole heap of issues (including his weight and the offensive language in which he uses), but also a desire to eliminate some of his flaws.
This series also stars Page Kennedy, and it would be an interesting fit in the CBS primetime lineup. The vast majority of their whodunit dramas are far more serious by nature, and the network could use its version of a “Bones” or a “Castle.” Wilson’s name does come with a pre-established audience, and he actually has a history in this genre, having guest-starred in a past episode of USA’s “Monk.”
