‘The X Factor’ UK alum Christopher Maloney comes out as gay

Christopher MaloneyMrs. Carter: Christopher Maloney is finally addressing the rumors.

After spending much of this past season of “The X Factor” UK being largely known as one of the most controversial (and hated by some) contestants on his way to a surprise third-place finish, the Liverpool native is speaking out now about a part of his life that he never shared during the competition: his personal life. Not only is the singer gay, but he has been in a long-term relationship for a few years.

So why not admit to it prior to now, especially when there were contestants on the show (including Rylan Clark and a member of Union J) who were more open about their sexual orientation? In a new interview with Now Magazine, here is what Maloney had to say on this very subject:

“Honestly, I’ve never denied it or anything like that. It’s just that with the show it was always an inappropriate time or people just asked inappropriate questions … No one asked [about my personal life]. I didn’t speak about my love life because I didn’t want my partner to be dragged through this.”

It is still not entirely clear just what some of Maloney’s career moves in the long-term are going to be, but we anticipate him getting some sort of music out there in the months ahead. “The X Factor” UK is still in the process of figuring out just what the judging panel will be for the new year, and for artists from the previous season the best time to release new music is typically when the show is fresh in viewers’ minds once again.
