‘Dancing with the Stars 16’ pre-show rankings: Sean Lowe, Jacoby Jones top guys

Dancing with the StarsIn just two days as of this writing, the ballroom blitz will be yet again on ABC as “Dancing with the Stars” kicks off its sixteenth season. There will be foxtrots, cha-chas, embarrassing moments, and some sort of analogy from Bruno Tonioli that crosses a line. Would you have it any other way? We wouldn’t!

Before we get to that, though, we are going to spend the next two days ranking some of the contenders for the season. This is not particularly easy to do without seeing them dance, but we’re really basing it on the following: athletic ability, performing background, and the perceived fan following that each star has. We’re going to be picking the guys today, so check back tomorrow to see where some of the ladies stack up.

The rankings

6. Andy Dick and Sharna Burgess – It’s not looking good for Andy right now. He’s certainly famous, but in the same sort of notorious way that David Hasselhoff is. We actually loved “NewsRadio,” but are we going to want to vote for him? He’s going to have to come across as super-likable night 1 in order to have a chance, especially with a rookie partner.

5. D.L. Hughley and Cheryl Burke – The advance here is that D.L. has a very popular partner in Cheryl who has been through this experience many of times with a variety of stars. As for the problem, it’s been years since this guy has really done anything that people know about. He’s got an uphill battle to find a fan base.

4. Ingo Rademacher and Kym Johnson – What Ingo has going for him is, like Kelly Monaco, he has “General Hospital” fans. The unfortunate thing is that the top three guys are all probably going to be pretty strong this year, and he and Kym Johnson will have to show off their fun side quickly to stand a chance.

3. Victor Ortiz and Karina Smirnoff – Athletes always have an advantage in the early rounds since they have stamina up the wazoo, and Victor has that down. Plus, he’s got to have some fancy footwork, right? While Lindsay Arnold may not be familiar to “Dancing with the Stars” audience, her fan base from “So You Think You Can Dance” should help her out.

2. Sean Lowe and Peta Murgatroyd – Even if Sean’s a pretty terrible dancer (which is unlikely, given that he is young and in good shape), his popularity will carry him for a while. There’s only one kind of contestant that could hurt him among the guys, and unfortunately for him, they are on this season.

1. Jacoby Jones and Karina Smirnoff – Emmitt Smith, Hines Ward, and Donald Driver are all proof that voters love football players. It’s the most-popular sport in America, and Jacoby is in prime physical shape and fresh off of a Super Bowl win. If this wasn’t all evidence enough that he will go far, Karina is a veteran of this show that will push him very hard.

Which one of the guys do you think will win the Mirrorball Trophy? Be sure to vote in the poll below, and you can read some on “Dancing with the Stars” this season over here.
