‘Justified’ season 4, episode 9 review: Drew Thompson’s identity revealed
On this week’s episode of “Justified” season 4 Raylan manipulated his way into being the person that escorts Hunter to the maximum security prison giving him some time to try and get him to give up Drew Thompson.
Pastor Billy’s sister, Cassie, comes into Ava and Boyd’s bar asking where Ellen May is and Ava learns that Ellen May is still alive. Boyd and Ava call Colton into the bar asking questions about Ellen May’s death and he tries to convince them that she’s dead and that Cassie is looking for some sort of pay day. Boyd goes on the hunt for Cassie with Colton, but Ava is not convinced. Later Johnny tells Ava and Boyd the truth about Ellen May, Colton and everything he knows.
Constable Bob goes to Lee’s cabin to talk, but a very drunk Lee threatens him with a gun and tells him to go home. Bob pulls out his gun and Lee and Derek start laughing at him. Raylan and Sheriff Shelby pull up to Lee’s cabin to see Bob firing at Lee and Derek and they are firing back. Raylan gets everyone to stop shooting and goes inside, but while he’s inside, Shelby sits in the back to the police car with Hunter and we learn that Shelby is Drew Thompson. He tells Hunter that he’s grateful for keeping his secret and gives him the keys to the cuffs, but he decides not to run. Inside Bob starts rambling about how Shelby once took the fall for Hunter and Raylan starts to piece things together. When they goes outside, Shelby’s gone and he’s taken Bob’s cruiser.
Colton finds Cassie before Boyd and threatens to kill her if she doesn’t give up Ellen May, but Tim shows up to save the day. Boyd walks into the confrontation and tells Tim that he will take Colton with him and make sure that nothing like this happens again. Tim lets him go with Boyd and he drives off with Colton. When they get back to the bar, Boyd starts questioning him about Ellen May and once Boyd points a gun at him he comes clean, saying that he messed up. Colton goes on to say that he tried everything to get her back, even went to ask for Shelby’s help to find her and Boyd is shocked to learn that Shelby didn’t contact him to tell him what was going on.
Boyd sends Ava away so that he can have a talk with Shelby and find out what he knows, but when he gets to Shelby’s house, Raylan is waiting and arrests him (really he’s looking for Drew Thompson). Now both Boyd and Raylan know Drew’s true identity, but with Boyd in jail, Raylan will likely be the first to get to him.
