‘Mad Men’ season 6: A pair of notable new departures
While “Mad Men” season 6 is by and large going to keep much of the same creative team intact from the year before, we’re now hearing that two of the people responsible for the success of the series over the past several years are going to be saying goodbye once this season (possibly the second-to-last one for the AMC series) is over.
According to Deadline, writer / producers Andre and Maria Jacquemetton, who have risen through the ranks after joining the series following the pilot to the point where they were now at executive producer status, have inked a new development deal with Warner Bros. TV to develop future projects of their own for both broadcast and cable television. The two will pick up their new duties on May 1, which is when production on “Mad Men” season 6 will officially conclude.
In a statement, Andre and Maria had the following to say about the opportunity to work on the Emmy-winning series over the years:
“It’s been a privilege to have been a part of ‘Mad Men’ for six seasons, and we’ve learned so much working with the show’s first-class cast, crew and writers, especially [creator] Matthew Weiner, who has been a mentor and a friend.”
Meanwhile, Weiner offered up some of his own positive thoughts on the pair as they move forward to their own future in the medium:
“Maria and Andre have been personal friends for over 20 years and, for the past six years, an essential part of Mad men … I wish them all the best, and though I will miss seeing them every day, no one deserves this opportunity more than Maria and Andre, and I can’t wait to watch their show.”
When it comes to whether or not some of the cast ends up making it to a “Mad Men” season 7, that we cannot say thanks to Weiner’s strict no-spoilers policy. Almost everything about this upcoming handful of episodes is under wraps, save for the part about it premiering on AMC on Sunday, April 7.
