‘Today Show’ video: Dr. Phil McGraw discusses Ronaiah Tuiasosopo interview

Today ShowAfter a couple of weeks of near-constant headlines, it seems as though the Manti Te’o hoax story is finally going to come at an end on Thursday and Friday. Ronaiah Tuisasosopo, the man who is now notorious for creating the fake identity of Lennay Kekua and getting the Notre Date football star to fall in love, will be appearing on “Dr. Phil” both Thursday and Friday; but before that even happens, a sneak preview of the chat aired on “The Today Show” Wednesday night.

In the video below, you can see Ronaiah act surprisingly okay for an interview with McGraw. He does not tear up, and also does not look as though he is about to at any given second. Instead, he is extremely open, upfront, and even in ways friendly with the daytime host as he explained that he did this hoax out of a need to be close to someone, and asserted that in no way was Manti in on what was going on here.

McGraw also described to NBC’s reporter that Ronaiah admitted that he had developed romantic feelings for Te’o based on many of their conversations together, which is why he had a hard time letting the Kekua character go even after he killed her off after a bout with leukemia. As for whether or not this therefore makes him gay, he at first said that the answer was “yes,” but then quickly corrected himself and said that he was “confused.”
