The Resident season 5 spoilers: Emily VanCamp returning as Nic

Emiyl VanCamp

Even though Emily VanCamp has not appeared on The Resident season 5 since her departure, that will be changing very soon.

According to a new report from TVLine, the actress will be coming back as Nic Nevin for the finale airing on May 17. Given that Nic is dead, her appearances will come in the form of flashbacks to help Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry) work to be able to move on from what happened in the past. This is something that has been a key part of the story the past several weeks, and here is some of what executive producer Peter Elkoff had to say on this subject to the aforementioned site:

“He hasn’t been able to make a move and find that next love. He knows that he’s still stuck in the past, in a way, with Nic … At the top of Episode 23, he realizes he has to unstick himself, and he doesn’t quite know how to do it. He gets some good advice about it. And he’s basically circling the memory of this one night when Gigi was just born. He keeps going back to pieces of that night, because he thinks the answer of how he moves on is in that night… and he gets an answer, a realization that frees him in a certain way.”

Hopefully, this episode also allows all of us as viewers a greater sense of closure, as well. We want Conrad to be happy, but it was a really tough transition jumping into new potential romances for him after losing Nic. He had years following her death, whereas we only had a matter of weeks thanks to the dramatic time jump that happened.
