Ronaiah Tuiasosopo tapes ‘Dr. Phil’ interview; mocked by Jon Stewart (video)

Mere minutes after we posted that the only thing really left to see when it comes to this Manti Te’o saga was an interview with Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, our wish has now been officially granted.

According to a new report coming in from TMZ, Dr. Phil McGraw filmed an interview yesterday following the discussion that Te’o had with Katie Couric, and in it they had an “emotional” discussion about everything pertaining to the Notre Dame football star, including why he decided to create a fake personal in Lennay Kekua in order to develop a relationship with him. Te’o believed that he was in a relationship with the woman until she supposedly “died” in September, only for it to be later revealed to him days before the Heisman Trophy presentation (in which Te’o finished as the second runner-up) that it was all an elaborate hoax.

There are so many questions still worth asking when it comes to Ronaiah, including why he would want to deceive a man like Te’o, how the relationship between the two developed, and whether or not he ever wanted to stop the communication at some point prior to when he decided to kill the Lennay character off. There’s also the issue of just what he hopes to do with his life moving forward, and what his communication with Te’o (if any) has been like since Deadspin first exposed this entire story in a story earlier this month.

It makes sense for McGraw to be Ronaiah’s setting for an interview, as his background certainly yields to him being at least a partially sympathetic figure. Not only that, but he also hosts the top-rated talk show on daytime TV.
