TNT’s ‘Dallas’ season 2 spoilers: What happens before J.R. Ewing’s death

DallasThe tragic death of Larry Hagman is going to be recognized in full courtesy of his character of J.R. Ewing’s passing on the March 11 episode of “Dallas,” but before we come to that, this classic television legend still has a story to tell. While the producers were shocked and saddened liked everyone else by Hagman’s passing, it only seems appropriate that the final days of J.R. look to be spent helping to pass the torch along to his son John Ross.

According to TV Guide, most of the first few episodes for J.R. are going to be spent with him trying to secure a bigger shareholder’s stage in Ewing Energies, and we have to imagine that he will be up to some of his old tricks along the way. Ultimately, there’s really no other way in which we would rather see J.R. go out than with him acting like the same sort of J.R. that we have come to cherish and enjoy watching.

Hagman will appear in the first handful of episodes, and over the end of the Thanksgiving holiday (especially as the actor’s condition worsened) producers had to think on their feet to come up with an alternate plan to chart a course for the rest of the season. Almost everyone involved has been notoriously quiet as to what happens after J.R.’s funeral, but this is such a watershed moment that it is almost impossible to really think to much about it until after this event happens. (There is still no word on what characters from the original series could be returning to send J.R. off.)

Do you think there is any specific way in which J.R. should be sent off on the show? If you want to see some additional details about early “Dallas” episodes this season, be sure to head over to the link here.
