‘The X Factor’ USA: Hear Emblem3’s Wesley Stromberg perform original ‘Reason’
Just in case one of your biggest letdowns from “The X Factor” USA was that Emblem3 didn’t get to perform many of their original songs while on the show, we have your official hookup here courtesy of band member Wesley Stromberg.
The acoustic performance by Stromberg below is of “Reason,” a track that the band created before the live shows ever even began. It’s a great track with some quality lyrics and a nice little hook to it. So why didn’t the guys get a chance to perform it? It’s hard to say, but Simon Cowell as a mentor seems to be afraid of getting people to do original music on the show, possibly out of fear that voters will not be inclined to vote for something that they have never heard before.
You can make the argument that Chris Rene got the chance to perform “Young Homie” live, but he had already performed it as his audition song and it was already reasonably familiar to voters. Then again, even he got a chance to perform “Where Do We Go From Here,” even if it was a little bit of a last-minute performance brought on by the fact that there was a snafu with their planned recordings.
The future for Emblem3 moving forward is still somewhat unclear; Simon said (rim shot) during the show that he was ready to support them in any way after their run was over, but there will probably not be any format announcements made on anyone (save for winner Tate Stevens) until after the new year when everyone is through unwinding for the holidays.
Does this performance make you wish that Emblem3 was allowed to do more original material? Just in case you are looking for some added goodies, we’ve also enclosed in here another performance from Stromberg of “One Day,” the strong Matisyahu cover from early this season.
