‘Sons of Anarchy’ season 6 spoilers: Kurt Sutter on the future of Otto
While we mourning the loss of one character outright in Damon Pope, “Sons of Anarchy” is going to feature another in a pretty precarious position when season 6 starts up next year: Otto. After all, the man played by Kurt Sutter himself no longer has a tongue courtesy of Lee Toric, but the guy is still alive to rot inside of a jail cell until the fateful day when he finally dies.
So how exactly was this gruesome scene created for the show? Speaking after the show in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Sutter explained that he is actually looking forward to not having so many lines on his own show anymore:
“We worked with a prosthetics house on that! My tongue was modeled in a full-on prosthetic. We made a bunch of them so I could do it a few times. I was literally gnawing my teeth to break it. It’s a rubber tongue but the material is hard enough so you have something to chew through. I’ve been saying I don’t want any more arcs for Otto. This way, I won’t have any more lines. He’ll probably still be part of the Tara arc in the new season. He’ll just be scribbling sh– on pads. FX President John Landgraf joked that the only thing left on Otto was his middle finger.”
So what sort of role is Otto going to have next season? We know that he will continue to be tied to what is going on with Lee, but what more is Donal Logue going to be able to do to him behind bars? (Of course, there is what happened to Opie…) He spent much of season 5 with Tara, but even she is not potentially behind bars after she may have been set up by Gemma.
Do you like this show more when Otto is around, or do you prefer Sutter to stay behind the camera? If you want to see some more early “Sons of Anarchy” season 6 spoilers, you can do so over here.
